City and county rules are separate
The City of Naples and Collier County each have their own fertilizer ordinance, and Marco Island and Lee County communities have their own rules too. The rules can include seasonal restrictions on certain nutrients, buffer zones near water, and limits on application rates. Don't use one calendar for every address. Read the current ordinance that applies to you: the City of Naples fertilizer ordinance or the Collier County fertilizer and landscaping ordinance.
Who may apply fertilizer commercially
In Florida, anyone applying fertilizer commercially to urban landscapes needs a fertilizer applicator certification from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). That certification does not cover pesticides, which need a separate FDACS license. See the FDACS fertilizer program.
Questions to ask any lawn company
- Who on the crew holds the FDACS fertilizer certification?
- Which ordinance applies to my address?
- What do you apply, when, and why?
- Do you keep application records I can see?
- Who handles weeds and insects, and are they licensed for pesticides?
This is a general summary, not legal advice. Dates and requirements change; check the current ordinance before any application.
